'Premio Lo Nuestro' to pay tribute to the late Johnny Pacheco

“Premio Lo Nuestro” will pay tribute to the music star and creator of La Fania, the late Johnny Pacheco. The tribute will feature the voice of Caballero de la Salsa Gilberto Santa Rosa and he will be joined by another salsa music singer Jose Alberto El Canario. 

The renowned music producer Sergio George and the flutist Néstor Torres will also be part of the tribute. During the tribute the songs “Quitate Tu,” “Mi Gente,” “Los Compadres” and “Guaguanco Pa’l que Sabe” will be recognized.

The late Johnny Pacheco passed on Monday February 15, 2021 at Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, New Jersey. The Dominican born artist who was raised in New York and lived in New Jersey had been hospitalized for complications stemming from pneumonia according to sources.

“Premio Lo Nuestro” rendirá tributo a la estrella de la música y creador de La Fania, el difunto Johnny Pacheco. El tributo llevará la voz del Caballero de la Salsa Gilberto Santa Rosa y se le unirá otro salsero José Alberto El Canario.

El reconocido productor musical Sergio George y el flautista Néstor Torres también serán parte del homenaje. Durante el tributo se reconocerán las canciones “Quítate Tu,” “Mi Gente,” “Los Compadres” y “Guaguancó Pa’l que Sabe.”

El difunto Johnny Pacheco falleció el lunes 15 de febrero de 2021 en el Centro Medico Holy Name en Teaneck, Nueva Jersey. El artista dominicano quien fue criado en Nueva York y vivió en Nueva Jersey fue hospitalizado por complicaciones derivado de neumonía según fuentes.

'Premio Lo Nuestro' 2021 rehearsal photos

Premio Lo Nuestro” 2021 kicked off the weekend with its first rehearsals. This year the annual music award show will feature a celebration of life with hope, culture and the best in Latin music. The show will air live from Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena on Thursday, February 18 starting at 7 p.m. ET/PT (6 p.m. CT) on Univision with the return of the popular magenta carpet in the pre-show “Noche de Estrellas.”

Who is performing at 'Premio Lo Nuestro' 2021

With just a week away to celebrate cautiously the 33rd edition of “Premio Lo Nuestro,” Univision is ready to celebrate music, resilience, and hope in the new year.

The award show will be televised live from the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami on Thursday February 18. It will kick off with the stars arrival to the magenta carpet during “Premio Lo Nuestro’s” pre-show “Noche de Estrellas” starting at 7 p.m. ET on Univision.

Presenting fans the best in Latin Music and Latino culture will be “Premio Lo Nuestro” hosts Chiquinquirá Delgado, Jose Ron, and Yuri, who was the first female artist to present an award in the first edition of “Premio Lo Nuestro” in 1989.

This ceremony honors airplay on Uforia radio during the eligibility period (October 1, 2019 through September 30, 2020), as well as on streaming.

The select artist line up includes tributes, performances by renown and new artists from the urban, tropical, pop, and Mexican genres. Thus far performing are:
