J Balvin to receive the 2020 'Premio Lo Nuestro' Global Icon Award

Colombian recording artist J Balvin will receive the “Premio Lo Nuestro” 2020 Global Icon Award. The award will be presented during “Premio Lo Nuestros” live presentation from Miami’s AmericanAirlines Arena on Thursday, February 20th, starting with the “Noche de Estrellas” pre-show at 7 p.m. ET/PT on Univision.

J Balvin is uniquely qualified to represent the fundamental theme of PLN 2020: The Globalization of Latin Music. He has more than 35 million singles sold worldwide, billions of video views across all digital platforms, and numerous collaborations with international artists. In addition, he has won 11 “Premio Lo Nuestro” awards, of which three are for Artist of the Year in 2016, 2017, and 2019

"To celebrate the evolution and global popularity of Latin Music, “Premio Lo Nuestro” 2020 will begin this new era honoring J Balvin with the Global Icon Award. Having headlined world-famous musical events in 2019 such as Coachella, Tomorrowland, and Lollapalooza, on top of collaborating on more than 100 songs in his brief career, his music has conquered the world,” said Ignacio Meyer, Univision Senior Vice President, Entertainment & Music. “But he’s never forgotten his ‘gente’ and has become an advocate for social inclusion, self-help, and mental illness awareness.”

Despite his meteoric international success, Balvin has stayed true to his roots and family values by maintaining his residence in his hometown of Medellín, Colombia and proudly displaying his cherished chest tattoo that reads “La Familia.”

“Receiving this award reinforces that with belief in your vision, and hard work, we can transcend any barriers.  My sincere thanks to Univision and “Premio Lo Nuestro” for the long support to make reggaeton global,” said music icon J Balvin. “It is an honor and a privilege to be able to utilize the rich ‘colores’ I see in music to help bring our language, and our culture to the entire world. I proudly accept this for Colombia and all the new Latino gang... and pledge to keep working even harder."

In addition to being recognized as a Global Icon, Balvin will also perform a medley of his most recent hits.

Congratulations to J Balvin for his upcoming Global Icon Award and also for his nine “Premio Lo Nuestro” nominations - Album of the Year, Remix of the Year, Tour of the Year, Crossover Collaboration of the Year, Crossover Collaboration of the Year, Urban Male Artist of the Year, Urban Song of the Year, Urban Collaboration of the Year, and Urban/Trap Song of the Year.

Produced by Live Nation, the Inmortal tour will kick off February 5 in Los Angeles, CA and make stops in Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Boston, Washington D.C., New York among other cities.

Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.com and presales for additional cities added. Check Ticketmaster.com here for the updated tour schedule.

Aventura’s last run of shows were a string of performances at the United Palace Theater in New York City in 2016. They recently reunited on stage at Romeo Santos’ history making Utopia concert at MetLife Stadium in September 2019. Earlier this year they released their first new single in 10 years, “Inmortal.” The single debuted at number five on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart and was just named Billboard’s Tropical Song of the Year, spending a record 18 weeks at #1 on the tropical chart. Their greatest hits album Lo Mejor De Aventura was also the #1 selling tropical album of 2019. In April of this year, Aventura won for Tropical Duo/Group of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Aventura broke into the mainstream with their 2002 hit "Obsesión (featuring Judy Santos)". The group was integral to the evolution of bachata music and are the pioneers of the modern bachata sound. Aventura released five studio albums in a decade, spawning top 10 hits including "Cuando Volverás", "Un Beso", "Mi Corazoncito", "Los Infieles", "El Perdedor","Por Un Segundo", "Dile Al Amor", among others. They have sold out arenas across the U.S. such as the world famous Madison Square Garden. Aventura has been nominated for awards including American Music Awards, the Latin Grammy Awards, Billboard Latin Music Awards, and Premio Lo Nuestro. They are one of the
most internationally recognized Latin groups of the last two decades. In 2009, Aventura was the first bachata act to ever perform at the White House, for the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama.
